Biography

Dr. Samuel Antuña is a graduate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Oviedo and with a Doctorate from the same university, having received the Doctorate extraordinary prize in 1998, as well as the 1997 IMQ prize for the best doctoral thesis from the University of Oviedo. The same year he was also awarded with the Sanitas prize for the best Resident Medical Intern in the country. A specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, he is a Fellow of Reconstructive Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota (United States). His very specific training on the shoulder and elbow, along with his extensive professional career in this field make him a point of reference at a national and international level for arm joint problems. He is a pioneer and expert of shoulder and elbow surgery through arthroscopic techniques and reconstructive surgery through arthroplasty. In the field of teaching, he acts as an Associate professor of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgery at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He belongs to the Spanish Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association, we he is currently the president. Furthermore, he is a Member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon Association and the European Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association. He is the author of over a hundred scientific publications in national and international magazines and an associate editor of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow surgery. He also has a robust experience of research, in recent years focused on the use of stem cells for tendon repairs.
