Dr Costandi is a true global citizen. Born in Cyprus, of Palestinian origin, Dr Costandi grew up in Lebanon and gained Canadian citizenship in 1997. She obtained both her Masters and Doctorate at McGill University in Canada where her research was focused on philosophy of education. Dr Costandi has been teaching for over 25 years in Lebanon, Canada and Bahrain and joined Ahlia University in early 2009. She is a highly popular faculty member currently holding the dual positions of Associate Professor in the College of Arts, Science and Education and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies & Research. Her academic career has been enormously successful. As well as publishing a number of papers and one book, Dr Costandi has also received many awards including the Margaret Gillett Graduate Research Award from the McGill Center for Teaching & Research on Women in 2000 and the Helen Prize for Women in 1999, an award offered to females who distinguished themselves in different fields, given by the International Organization of the Helen Prize for Women; endorsed by the National Action Committee on the Status of Women in Canada and by the Minister of Heritage.
