Richard Nicholas, M.D., is a professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and currently serves as the Director of the Center for Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).  A 1977 graduate of the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, Dr. Nicholas received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1981. An internship in general surgery at the University of California at San Francisco was followed by a residency in orthopaedics. After a fellowship in orthopaedic oncology at the University of Chicago, Dr. Nicholas joined the Orthopaedics staff at UAMS in 1989 to lead the Section of Musculoskeletal Oncology. From 1997 until January 2003, he served as the Director of Education at the Cancer Institute. He subsequently served as chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic surgery from 2005 until November 2013.  Dr. Nicholas is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
