Biography

Dr. Buning is an Assistant Professor of Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management in the School of Physical Education and Tourism Management on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus. Dr. Buning earned his B.B.A. in Managerial Sciences from the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University in 2006. Later, he received his M.S. and Ph.D in sport management from the Department of Tourism, Recreation, and Sport Management at the University of Florida. Dr. Buning has worked in the running event industry managing race logistics and continues to work with events as a consultant evaluating event outcomes. His research interests include sport tourism, event management, and sport development. Within this area, his research agenda is focused on the progressive experiences of participant based active travel at the individual, event, and community level. The outcome of this work enables communities and events to efficiently market to and attract visitors as a form of sustainable tourism development.
