Biography

I was born in Princeton, WV, but spent most of my adult life until 1983 in Washington, D. C., Maryland, Virginia. From 1984 to I996 I worked in executive education at the University of Pittsburgh assisting companies by providing training programs to their managers and executives. In 1996, I moved to Atlanta, worked 3 years at Emory University in the Goizueta Business School, and then decided to become an independent consultant working with businesses, non-profits, and government agencies (strategic planning, organizational development, governance, leadership training, cultural audits, etc.). The knowledg that I gained during this time has informed my classes at SSU and, I believe, made my content more relevant to what students will experience in their careers.

Research Intrest

The use of code switching in the college classroom is of particular interest. I am trying to apply different approaches to motivating students to use Standard English in business communications.
