Dr. Currin is a 2013 graduate of the New England College of Optometry. In 2014, she completed a residency in Ocular Disease with the VA Boston Healthcare System, West Roxbury campus, and then a two-year VA Optometric Research Fellowship from 2014-2016. During this time, Dr. Currin focused her research on the relationship between subfoveal choroidal thickness, as measured by optical coherence tomography, and systemic cardiovascular disease. She has held a full-time Attending Optometrist position with the VA Boston Healthcare System since August 2016. Dr. Currin also serves as the Co-Director for the Boston VA Optometric Research Fellowship program and continues to act as a principal investigator within the VA Research Service. Dr. Currin joined the faculty at NECO in 2014 as Adjunct Clinical Instructor and then Adjunct Assistant Professor within the Department of Biosciences. She is involved in classroom teaching and course administration with the Clinical Medicine and Clinical Topics in Neuro-Ophthalmology courses, taught in the second and third years of the NECO 4-year OD curriculum. She also serves a clinical mentor to VA Boston residents and fourth-year optometry students rotating through the Boston VA clinics. As a hospital-based optometrist and NECO faculty member, Dr. Currin has a special interest in the relationship between ocular health and systemic health, as well as a passion for clinical mentorship of optometrists-in-training. Dr. Currin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the National Association of VA Optometrists.
