Prof. Dr. Harri Kalimo is a Senior Research Fellow at the IES. He is the Director of the post-graduate LL.M. Programme on International and European Law (“PILC”), and the Co-Director of the post-graduate M.Sc. Programme on European Integration and Development (“EuroMaster”). He holds professorships at the faculty of law as well as the faculty of economic and social sciences. He has master’s degrees in economics and in law, and a doctoral degree in law. Harri manages the IES research cluster on European Economic Governance and actively contributes to that on Environment and Sustainable development. Harri lectures currently on general EU law and policy, EU economic and environmental law and policy, research methodology and interest representation. He has practiced, researched and taught in a wide range of law and policy, including IT and media, intellectual property rights, trade, environment, government affairs, contracts, legal theory and constitutional law. Harri has extensive experience in developing and managing research projects (e.g. EU’s FP7 (BFSJ – Aviation Biofuels; CORPUS -- Online Knowledge Brokerage); FP6 (ASCEE -- Innovative Policy Tools); Academy of Finland (Ecoherence); DG ENT (U.S. Constitutional law; Environment and the Internal market); INSEAD (Extended Producer Responsibility)), also in the private sector. Harri has academic and non-academic know how from multiple disciplines, fields of work and geographic locations. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Turku and at at the University of Tampere and has held numerous visiting positions in, e.g., the Harvard Law School, Institut d’Études Européennes (Université Libre de Bruxelles), New York University School of Law and Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Prior to turning full time to academic life in 2006, he has held non-academic posts in Nokia Corporation, varying from managerial duties in global product marketing projects to legal counseling and European Union governmental affairs. Harri’s hobbies include various kinds of sports, and he is a trainer in the Finnish children’s sports group “the Flying Finns” and the ice hockey club “Leuven Chiefs”.
