Biography

Pekka Mäntsälä is working as Professor emeritus in Department of Biochemistry and Food Chemistry, University of Turku. Dr. Mäntsälä research focuses on enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of aromatic polyketide antibiotics in Streptomyces soil bacteria. In collaboration with the Molecular Structural Biology laboratory at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Dr.Mäntsälä have published the structures of 7 enzymes from the anthracycline biosynthetic pathways.

Research Intrest

Research is centered around the enzymology of Type II aromatic polyketide biosynthesis in Streptomyces bacteria.
