He is a geneticist interested in studying the evolution and architecture of genomes, and in their applications in the genetics of conservation and genetic improvement. he have worked with different types of markers and statistical methodologies to estimate genetic structure and population parameters, as well as for phylogenetic reconstruction. Also, he is actively involved in the application of genealogical and genomic traceability tools in selection programs. His research has focused on aquatic organisms, initially fish, but more recently mollusks. he is interested in technology transfer to companies and management related to genetics conservation and genetic selection. Since 2003, he work on the development of genomic tools for evolutionary and applied studies, Such as genetic maps for QTL identification, mass gene expression studies (oligo-microarrays, RNAseq) to identify candidate genes related to productive traits, and genotyping of large-scale SNPs (RADseq) in population genomic or genomic selection projects . Recently, our group has been involved in the complete sequencing of the turbot genome.
