Biography

Paul Gutierrez, Extension Specialist, is based on the NMSU main campus in Las Cruces. His research interests and expertise are in the fields of range livestock production and marketing economics with an emphasis on sustainable ranching systems, including renewable energy and energy efficiency. Duties and responsibilities included classroom, applied research and extensive work with rural community development, and outreach to Hispanic families, communities and agriculture producers, dealing directly with production, and marketing and financial management issues in production agriculture and rural economies. • April 2008-June 2010: Vice-Provost for University Outreach and Engagement. The Vice Provost for University Outreach and Engagement includes an expanded role beyond “Cooperative Extension” to that of institutional leader for community engagement--through the Office of University Engagement. Leadership for strategic planning related to interdivisional cooperation, and programmatic engagement collaborations with NMSU Colleges, community based campuses, 1994 Tribal College partners and other institutions of higher education. • January 2006 – April 2008: Vice Provost for University Outreach and Associate Dean and Associate Director New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Responsibilities include administrative 2 management and overall program leadership of the NMSU Cooperative Extension Service including: program development, promotion and implementation; budget preparation and management; coordination of county and state and national programs and initiatives; active participation in procurement of funds; personnel management and development. • December 2003- January 2006: Associate Dean and Associate Director New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service, Las Cruces New Mexico. Responsibilities include administrative management and overall program leadership of the NMSU Cooperative Extension Service. • July 1999- November 2003: Chair, Washington State University Cooperative Extension King County, Renton Washington. Duties and responsibilities included providing leadership and administrative support for the overall planning, development, implementation, reporting and evaluation of the Washington State University Cooperative Extension programs in King County. • October 1985-June 1999: Professor and Extension Agricultural and Business Management Specialist, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Colorado State University, Fort Collins Colorado.
