Biography

Dr. Panagiotis Geros is a lecturer at the Department of Social Anthropology, in Panteion University/Athens, specializing in issues concerning the Middle East and the Mediterranean, post-colonialism, humanitarianism and social movements. Dr. Geros studied History at the University of Athens (BA) and Social Anthropology at the University of the Aegean (Postgraduate Program) and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)/University of London (MA and PhD). His PhD thesis examined the Arab Christians and the production of communalism in Damascus, and included long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Syria during the period 1999-2001.

Anthropology of the Middle East, Islam, Mediterranean, communalism, religion, postcolonialism, humanitarianism, Syria, Palestine.
