Biography

Professor Onn Min Kon is a Respiratory Physician and the Lead Clinician for the TB service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He runs a busy TB service at St Mary’s Hospital which is a tertiary centre for MDR-TB and a regional centre for endobronchial ultrasound. He is also Lead Clinician for the North West London TB sector. He is the chair of the British Thoracic Society Joint Tuberculosis Committee and ex-chair of the British Thoracic Society Specialist Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the National MDRTB advisory service. He has served on the Department of Health Find and Treat Steering Committee. He has interests in the clinical and immuno-diagnosis of TB, the delivery of care and management of TB. Professor Kon obtained his undergraduate degree in Medicine at University College and Middlesex Hospital School of Medicine before training in respiratory medicine at the Royal Brompton, St Mary's and Charing Cross hospitals. He performed research on immunosuppressants in asthma under the supervision of Professor Barry Kay and Professor Neil Barnes at the Royal Brompton Hospital and London Chest Hospital.  He is a principal investigator in the Centre for Respiratory Infection at Imperial College London and is also co-lead investigator with Professor Ajit Lalvani for the ‘IDEA’ study - the largest multicentre study evaluating the role of interferon gamma release assays in active TB funded by the National Institute for Health Research
