Biography

"Professor Nagwa El-Badri is the founding chair of the biomedical sciences program at the University of Science and Technology, Zewail City. She also serves as the director of the Center of Excellence for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine at Zewail City. Prior to joining Zewail City, she was the director of women’s health graduate and undergraduate programs at the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine in the United States. El-Badri received her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB Bch) degree with honors from the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree with distinction from the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine. Her postdoctoral training as a fellow of the American Heart Association was in the field of immune tolerance and bone marrow transplantation. She received research support from the Science and Technology Development Fund, American Heart Association, the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and several other foundations. She contributed with more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in the field of stem cell biology and autoimmune disease. Dr. El-Badri has developed several undergraduate and graduate programs both at Zewail City and the University of South Florida. She received several awards for her efforts in research and in promoting women in science, and was elected as a fellow of the American College of Nutrition. She has mentored more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students in the field of stem cell research. Her research interests include adult stem cell biology, autoimmune diseases and stem cell banking. She was recently awarded a grant of ten million Egyptian pounds from the Science and Technology Development Fund for Centers of Scientific Excellence (STDF-CSE) to establish the Center of Excellence for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine at Zewail City of Science and Technology."

Research Intrest

El-Badri’s research interests include adult stem cell biology, autoimmune diseases and stem cell banking. She received research support from the Science and Technology Development Fund, American Heart Association, the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and several other foundations. She contributed with more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in the field of stem cell biology and autoimmune disease.
