Nadia Farah is a professor of political economy. She earned her B. Sc. in economics in 1968 from Cairo University, Egypt, a Graduate Diploma in economic integration from Amsterdam University (1971), and a PhD in economics from Clark University (Massachusetts, U.S.A.) in 1977. Farah is a Gender and Development Expert for UN organizations (FAO, UNICEF, UNDP, UNIFEM, UNESCO and UNAIDS). Before rejoining AUC in 2001, Farah was a consultant to a number of NGOs, international organizations, andthe Reproductive Health Project of the West Asia and North Africa Regional Office of the Population Council (Cairo). She was also Director/ UNFPA Project Adviser for the Arab Women Center for Training and Research (1992-93); Coordinator of the Working Group on Population Policy and Development in the Arab World, the Population Council (1990-92), Coordinator of the Cairo Women's Health Book Collective (1985-91), and Economic Consultant at the Center for Strategic and Political Studies, Al Ahram (Cairo). Her academic experience is also varied. She was Research Scholar at the Center for International Development, University of Maryland, College Park (1982-83), Research Scholar, Center for International Development, University of Maryland (1981-84), Visiting Assistant Professor, University of Maryland at College Park, Department of Government and Politics (1981-82), Visiting Assistant Professor, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, Department of Economics and Political Sciences (1980-81) and Research Associate, Studies of Conflict and Peace, Department of Political Science, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1979-81). She also taught at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University. Dr. Farah's most recent publications include Arab Women and Employment: Current Status and development Requirements. Some of her most important publications include her books: Religious Strife in Egypt: Crisis and Ideological Conflict in the Seventies, published by Gordon and Breach in 1986; Women's Lives and Health, published by Dar Sina for Publications in Cairo in 1991.
