Leonard M. Mbugua was born in 1960 in Kiambu district in the former Central Province. He went to Mukui Primary School where he attained his Certificate of Primary Education before proceeding to Kihara High School where he attained his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. In 1989 He was Employed by the Department of Animal Production, and has worked in the Poultry Unit and Nutrition Laboratory in animal feed analysis
