He was elected in 2008, and subsequently re-elected in 2012. His term of office ends in 2015. His main research areas are wetland systems, storm water management, sustainable drainage, biological filtration, water quality and wastewater treatment. The core impact of the research output is measurable in the key areas of Integrated Constructed Wetlands (ICW), Sustainable Flood Retention Basins (SFRB) and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), and other sustainable environmental management measures
