Dr. Mia Aarnio has worked as a research scientist at the Finnish Meteorological Institute since 1999. Her expertise is on mathematical modelling and atmospheric physics; particularly evaluation of urban air quality, the dispersion of pollution from traffic with specific focus on particulate matter. Her MSc thesis (1996) dealt with numerical fluid dynamics modelling, and her Licentiate thesis (1999) likewise studied numerical fluid dynamics, modelling of particles in moving liquid. Her doctor's thesis (2006) dealt with atmospheric dispersion modelling of urban air quality and particle number concentration modelling including dispersion and aerosol processes. Dr. Aarnio is the author of approximately 70 scientific publications; 17 of these in refereed international journals. She has given over 16 presentations at scientific conferences.
