Mari Kauhaniemi has worked as a research scientist at the Finnish Meteorological Institute since 2002. Her expertise is on urban scale air quality modelling (particularly the dispersion of pollution from traffic). Kauhaniemi is currently working as a main scientist on a team developing local air quality forecasting system for operational use and the road dust emission model. Her experience in information technology is following: air quality modelling (CAR-FMI, OSPM), programming languages (FORTRAN, PHP), MATLAB, and GIS (MapInfo). Her MSc thesis (2003) dealt with the usability of the air quality model CAR-FMI in city planning. Currently she is a PhD student at the University of Eastern Finland (Kuopio), Department of Applied Physics.
