Manuel Cifuentes Rueda graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of Málaga since 1986. My teaching and research activity began in 1987 as a pre-doctoral fellow in Research Training, continuing uninterrupted until today. I got my doctorate in 1991, with an extraordinary prize. Later I did a postdoctoral stay in the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad Austral (Chile), two years. In 1999 I obtained a position as Professor of the University, attached to the Department of Animal Biology and later to Cellular Biology, Genetics and Physiology, University of Málaga, since performance to the present. Since January 2012 I am accredited by ANECA as University Professor. Until the year 2000 my research activity was exclusively focused on the molecular study and the function of the secretion of the subcommissural organ (brain gland), under the tutelage of Professor Pedro Fernández-Llebrez and Professor Esteban M Rodríguez. Thanks to the training acquired in the field of molecular biology, in 2000 I started a collaboration with Prof. José Becerra in his line of research focused on osteogenesis. Since then I have been active in the production of recombinant proteins (bFGF, BMP-2 and BMP-6) with specific molecular domains to bind to collagen or hydroxyapatite and biomimetic peptides, which will be used for the functionalization of osteo and chondrogenic biomaterials , Micro and nanostructured, based on collagen and / or hydroxyapatite. As a researcher I am co-author of more than 45 scientific papers all of them published in magazines collected in the SCI, in addition to several book chapters. I have actively participated as a researcher in 24 research projects, all of them competitive calls from the Ministry of Science and Innovation (with other denominations in the past), Health Research Fund, Junta de Andalucía, as well as calls for similar entities in Chile (CONICYT ), Thanks to the collaboration that I have with groups from that country. I have also participated as a researcher in 10 contracts with companies, in 4 of them as responsible researcher, carrying out research or technical advice. So far I have recognized four six-year research. My activity as a teacher began at the same time as the researcher, so that from the 1986/1987 to the present time, with the exception of the postdoctoral time, I have taught in different undergraduate, postgraduate (Master) and doctorate subjects. I have conducted three doctoral theses, one of them with European mention. So far, I have 5 years of teaching experience.
Mechanisms of regulation of BMPs and other peptides obtained from extracellular matrix proteins, in the Development of specific bone defects, in addition to their in vivo application, in combination with different osteoconductive biomaterials.
