Biography

Mahmut Koca received his Bachelor’s degree in law from Marmara University Law Faculty in 1991. He completed his master’s degree at Marmara University (1993) with his thesis "TCK’da Ä°ntihara Ä°kna ve Yardım Suçu" (Inducing and Aiding Suicide in the Turkish Penal Code) and his Ph.D. at Ä°stanbul University (1998) with his thesis "Hazırlık SoruÅŸturmasında Sanığın Savunma Hakkı" (Defendant’s Right to Defence During Preliminary Investigation). In 2004 he became associate professor and in 2011 he became professor. He taught at Atatürk University Erzincan Law Faculty (1993-2004) and Kadir Has Law Faculty (2004-2011). He joined Ä°stanbul Åžehir University School of Law in May 2011. Aside from his academic and administrative commitments, he served as a member of the Turkish Football Federation Professional Football Discipline Committee (2005) and Prime Ministry Evaluation Committee for Acquiring Information (2011-2012) and worked as a legal advisor to the Council of Higher Education (2008-…). Professor Koca has numerous publications in his area of expertise; criminal law and criminal procedure law in particular. He is a member of the editorial and advisory boards of several academic journals. Additionally, he undertook to work as a referee and editor for some journals.
