Biography

Dr. Mackiewicz is the Program Director for the Integrative Neurobiology, Sleep & Biorhythms section in the Neurobiology of Aging Branch of the Division of Neuroscience. Dr. Mackiewicz earned his Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the National Cancer Institute in Warsaw, Poland, and conducted postdoctoral research at the Wistar Institute and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Prior to joining NIA in 2009, Dr. Mackiewicz was a Research Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and Director of the Molecular Biology, Behavioral Assessment, and Biomarker Core Laboratories at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Sleep.

Research Intrest

Overseeing research on sleep and circadian rhythms, neural mechanisms underlying age-related changes in endocrine functions, neurodegenerative disease associated with infectious agents, and neuroendocrine system and immune system interactions in aging.
