She was an Assistant Professor at Lehigh University and obtained the position of Associate Professor at Baruch College, City University of New York. Since 2007 she is Associate Professor at the University of the Andes. She is the director of the Research Group on Literary Theory and Comparative Literature. She is currently the Vice President of the Association of Colombianists. His areas of research and teaching include modern and contemporary literary theory (Walter Benjamin, deconstruction, theories of the sign), comparative literature, women's writing, Latin American literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and studies on material culture. It is also dedicated to literary creation.
