Biography

Lynn  Cohn is the Director of the Center on Negotiation and Mediation at Northwestern Law School and was awarded the Harry B. Reese Teaching Chair.  She has developed and taught courses in negotiation, mediation, mediation advocacy and problem solving.   Professor Cohn has trained lawyers, real estate professionals, management and union representatives, government employees, community groups and corporate employees in effective negotiation, mediation, conflict management and arbitration techniques.  Clients include the National Association of Realtors, Covington & Burling, Edelman, the American Orthopedic Association, the Illinois Commerce Commission, Mesirow Financial, Kirkland & Ellis, Sidley & Austin, Mayer Brown, Katten Muchin & Rosenman, the Illinois Colleges Association, the City of Chicago and Lovells. Professor Cohn has also served as an arbitrator or mediator in over 2000 cases with an emphasis on employment, personal injury and commercial disputes.  Her practice is national and international in scope and includes projects in Brazil, Israel, Abu Dhabi, South Africa, Ghana, Taiwan, London, Paris, Milan, Central America, Ireland and Puerto Rico. In 2013, Professor Cohn was appointed as the Special Master in the McReynolds v. Merrill Lynch Settlement.  In this role, she was responsible for the distribution of $160 million to claimants alleging racial discrimination in their employment.
