Biography

I am an Associate Professor in Marine Biology at the School of Biological Sciences. I also act as the Course Coordinator for the BSc (Marine Biology) and joint coordinator for the BSc (Marine Biology & Aquaculture). I am the Research Leader of the Cetacean Ecology, Behaviour and Evolution Lab and Deputy Head of the Molecular Ecology Lab, and member of the Animal Welfare Committee (Biological Sciences sub-commitee). In addition, I act as an Associate Editor for the Journal Behavioural Ecology & Sociobiology, and I am a member of the IUCN Cetacean Specialist Group. Between 2003 and 2008 I was a Research Fellow at Macquarie University, where I coordinated long-term projects on the behavioural and molecular ecology of marine mammals. In 2002-03 I was a Research Associate at Yale University. In 2001 I received my PhD in Environmental Studies from Macquarie University. Before my PhD I was a Research Fellow at the Rio Grande Oceanographic Museum. I received my BSc (Oceanography) from Rio Grande University in 1993.

Research Intrest

My research interests include behaviour, ecology and molecular ecology of marine mammals, particularly cetaceans, and marine conservation.
