Lucia Berte has been an Analyst with Health Care Development Services, Inc. for more than seven years. Ms. Berte has an undergraduate degree in medical technology from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and a graduate degree in health care administration from Central Michigan University. In addition to laboratory certifications in blood banking and laboratory management, Ms. Berte is also certified as a quality auditor and quality manager by the American Society for Quality. She has many years of experience in hospital laboratory operations, including supervision and management of hospital transfusion services and laboratory quality assurance programs. Ms. Berte has focused on analyzing and documenting work processes and procedures, and developing training and competence assessment programs. She has led or facilitated numerous quality management system implementations in hospital and clinical services and blood centers. Ms. Berte also has many years of experience as an AABB assessor. She is active at the national level in AABB committees, the accreditation program, and educational programs on quality management. Ms. Berte is a frequent presenter of workshops and teleconferences on quality management and quality management systems for the Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA) and the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). In addition, she has been an active volunteer member of several subcommittees and working groups that develop CLSI (formerly NCCLS) consensus guidelines on quality management for clinical services.
