Linette van der Merwe has had close ties to the University of Pretoria since 1992. She is currently involved in the Departments Afrikaans and Humanities Education where she lectures on Literacies in Education, Methodology of Languages as well as Afrikaans grammar for the Department Afrikaans. She finished her MA degree, titled “Die hantering van sitate in HAT3 (1994)” at the end of 1996 which included research about the handling of example material in the third edition of the HAT dictionary. The study investigates the extent to which example material had been taken from canonised Afrikaans literary texts, with the aim to add credibility to the dictionary. One of the biggest advantages of this is the bridging of traditional borders between linguistics and literature. Linette also acted as the Chief Executive, Culture and Administration of the FAK from 2009 to 2010. It has been the first time in the 80 year existence of the FAK that a woman has been awarded this position. She managed the project, the Afrikaans-Ekspo for High School learners from 2000 to 2014.
Her interest areas are Literacies in Education & Methodology of Languages.
