Biography

Leticia Vega, PhD (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), works in the field of cell biology on baker's yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Before coming to Barry in Spring 2005, she was at Princeton University for postdoctoral work. In her lab at Barry University, she uses yeast to study how telomerase, an enzyme that is important for maintaining DNA, contributes to genomic integrity. Yeast is an ideal organism to study basic biological problems and to teach students about the fundamental aspects of biology.
