Charles Kwong read English at HKU and Oxford before studying Chinese literature at Yale. He had taught in the US, and holds a triple appointment as Professor of Chinese, Professor of Translation and Adjunct Professor of Philosophy. His research work includes Tao Qian and the Chinese Poetic Tradition, Women Writers of Traditional China (associate editor and translator),《朱淑真æŽæ¸…照詩詞é€å—索引》(Concordances to the Poems of Zhu Shuzhen & Li Qingzhao),《æ¦å‰‡å¤©æŽå†¶è–›æ¿¤éšçŽ„æ©Ÿè©©é€å—索引》(Concordances to the Poems of Wu Zetian, Li Ye, Xue Tao & Yu Xuanji), and articles in English and Chinese covering classical Chinese poetry and fiction, comparative poetics, literary translation and the history of ideas. His translations include rendering the Chinese texts for a book of paintings into English.
