Kurt McMullin’s research interests involve the response of steel, concrete, and timber structures to earthquakes and other catastrophic events. The research is a mixture of experimental testing of laboratory prototypes and computer simulation. He has participated in earthquake reconnaissance of the 1989 Loma Prieta, 1994 Northridge, and the 1995 Hanshin earthquakes. He has worked as a design engineer on a variety of medium and large-scale buildings in the San Francisco Bay Area and Southeast Asia.
