Biography

Dr. Kuppuswamy Jayaraman has professional engineering, advisory, teaching and research experience in the area of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He gained this expertise while working in the United States, Africa (Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Zambia), Europe (Germany) and Asia (India). This includes assignments under international agencies like Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA – SWEDEN) and Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC – UK). He also served as External Examiner to universities in Kenya and Tanzania. He has taught students at Diploma, Bachelor and Master level degree programs. This experience provided opportunities for developing new curricula and laboratories. Jayaraman has taught Environmental Engineering, Engineering Hydrology, Fluid Mechanics, Surveying, Construction Management and Urban Planning. He developed web-based online lecture notes for most of his courses. His research interests include wastewater management, sludge, wastewater byproducts, soil amendments, greenhouse gases and performance evaluation of treatment plants. He has coauthored research papers published in well-known, peer-reviewed, national and international journals of great repute. He has successfully written and implemented grant proposals (with other faculty and other universities) availing of large external funds from National Science Foundation. Jayaraman also held, at SSU, administrative positons of Chair of Engineering Technology (9 years) and Acting Dean of COST (4 years)
