Prof Kumta is an orthopaedic surgeon and is also the Assistant Dean of Education for the Medical Faculty. He is also the director of the Education Resources at the medical faculty. Prof Kumta is intensely involved in the application of new technology in Medical education, particularly in areas of formative assessment, simulation and in the acquisition of skills. He also is involved in clinical service and has developed a niche area in the palliative management of advanced sarcomas, Giant Cell Tumor of Bone and Limb Salvage Surgery particularly joint-sparing resections in children. He is an active researcher and his interests include target therapies for Giant Cell Tumor of Bone, and the application of advanced imaging and visualization in the management of complex resections and reconstructions in patients with sarcomas. Prof. Kumta is also involved in medico-legal work particularly related to negligence and personal injury assessment. Professor Kumta has published over 100 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, over 130 conference presentations, contributed over 10 book chapters and received more than 10 research / teaching-related awards. He serves on the Board Member of Chinese Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, Reviewer of the Journal of Musculoskeletal Research. He was founder member and vice president of the Asia Pacific Musculoskeletal Society, President of the Asia Pacific Association of Surgical Tissue Banking. He serves as member of New Medicolegal Society of Hong Kong, Life-member of Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association and including IAMOG, ISOLS.
