Dimitris Kalles is an Associate Professor on Artificial Intelligence with the Hellenic Open University (HOU) and Director of the undergraduate study programme “Computer Science”. He holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras, Greece (1991). He also holds an M.Sc. (1993) and a Ph.D. (1995) in Computation from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST, today University of Manchester). While with HOU, he has been involved in the design and implementation of study programs and of several projects on the development of educational material and in the implementation of infrastructures for e-learning. He has taught several subjects at Informatics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has supervised over 40 undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and theses, at HOU, at the Open University of Cyprus and at University of Patras (Greece).
He has worked as an R&D engineer and researcher with Research Academic Computer Technology Institute (Patras, Greece, 1997-2000), as a Technical Director with Ahead Relationship Mediators SA (Athens, 2000-2004, also serving as member of its BoD during 2000-2008). He has served as a project evaluator for the European Commission, the Corallia Clusters Initiative, and the University of Porto, and as a proposal evaluator for the European Commission, for the General Secretariat for Research and Technology and for the Ministry of Education (Greece), and for other organisations
