Miguel holds a degree in Biosciences (1981) and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1987) by the University of Sao Paulo. He is currently an associate professor at Federal University of Minas Gerais, leading the Biodata Lab. He has experience in Biochemistry, with emphasis on bioinformatics, acting on the following topics: chromatin structure, yeast two-hybrid system (liquid screening system), biochemistry of transcription factors and bioinformatics. Participated twice in the board of the Brazilian Association of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and was the organizer of the X-meeting 2005. Participates of the PhD program on Bioinformatics at UFMG and Minas Gerais Genome Network and is currently dedicated to the formation of a National Center for Intensive Bioinformatics (NCIB) in collaboration with other major regional centers.
