In his seventh year as head coach, Jon Hegerle saw his team continue to achieve at an elite level in an effort to establish themselves as a National Championship caliber team. The Jimmies ended the season as the NSAA North Regular Season Champion and NSAA Tournament Runner-up. These achievements came on the heels of another significant year. For the team’s accomplishments, the team earned five NSAA All-Conference awards, NSAA Assistant Coach of the Year, three All-Region awards, three NAIA All-American selections, two Daktronics Scholar Athletes, one COSIDA All-Region Team selection, and sixteen NSAA Scholar Athletes. In Coach Hegerle’s seven years at the helm of the Jimmie Volleyball program, the team has compiled an impressive 184-83 (.690) record. Stressing faith, servant leadership, fundamentals, and a team-first attitude, his teams have earned 5 Conference Championships, 3 NAIA National Tournament Participants, and produced 35 All-Conference selections, 4 Conference Player of the Year Selections, 2 Conference Senior of the Year Selections, 1 Conference Setter of the Year Selection, 15 AVCA All-NW Region selections, 1 AVCA NW Region Player of the Year, 7 AVCA Honorable Mention All-Americans, 2 AVCA 3rd Team All-Americans, 2 AVCA 2nd Team All-Americans, 1 COSIDA 1st Team All-American and 19 NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athletes. Coach Hegerle came to University of Jamestown from Marshall, Minn., where, since 2003, he was top assistant volleyball coach and a social studies teacher at Marshall High School. Marshall posted a volleyball record of 166-31 and reached the state tournament each year during Hegerle’s six years on the coaching staff, including runner-up in 2005 and 2008 and state champion in 2004 and 2007. He was named Section 3AA and State Class AA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2008. A 25-year member of the Midwest Volleyball Instructors staff, Hegerle has directed and coached camps across the upper Midwest. He has also coached at Apple Valley, Lakeville North and Eastview High Schools, all in Minnesota. Before coaching, he was a professional beach volleyball player for three seasons. Coach Hegerle began his career as a player and coach for the St. Olaf College (Northfield, Minn.) men’s team. He holds a degree in sociology from St. Olaf and a degree in education from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Hegerle also is the director of the Jamestown Juniors program as well as director of the University of Jamestown summer camps which are recognized as leaders in player and skill development in the area. Jon’s wife Sara is the Jamestown HS head volleyball coach and they have 3 daughters Josie (20), Grace (13) and Edie (10).
