Dr. Joanna Black is currently an associate professor of art education in the Faculty of Education and is cross-appointed as associate professor in the School of Art at the University of Manitoba. She teaches visual arts and new media education, including video art as well as graduate-level courses in art education and curriculum theory. Her research interests and published works include the subjects of the virtual visual-arts classroom, new media in education, contemporary art, and digital visual-arts pedagogy. Previous to working at the University of Manitoba, she worked as an art director for the Inner City Angels in Toronto, curator in Atlanta, Georgia, museum art educator at Montreal's Musée des Beaux-Arts, art consultant in Canada and the United States, and a K-12 teacher for close to 20 years in public and alternative-school settings.
