Jin K. Gong is the Vice President of ShanghaiTech and professor of School of Physical Science and Technology. Prior to his current position at ShanghaiTech, he served as the Associate Provost for research and Collaborative Programs and Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of the Pacific from 2007-2012. He was the President of American Chemical Society, Southern Illinois/Southeast Missouri section in 1999. He was a member of Board of Directors, Maryland Applied Information Technology Initiatives (MAITI), Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee of MAITI and a Board member of national Council of Graduate School (CGS) Advisory Board for Minority as well as a member of CGS international taskforce. He currently serves as the President of The Council of Chinese American Deans and Presidents. He received his undergraduate education in English and Chemistry from East China Normal University in Shanghai, China and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Purdue University, West Lafayette campus in 1990.
