Dr. He is an Associate Professor of Physiological Optics, and teaches optics lab to first and second year students. His primary area of interest is the optics of the eye and refractive development. He is currently investigating accommodative changes in the ciliary muscle, the crystalline lens, the iris and the wavefront aberrations of the human eye. Dr. He is also studying the influence of peripheral aberrations and chromatic aberrations on myopia development. He is using various techniques including theoretic model, the wavefront aberrometer, corneal topography system, Scheimpflug imaging system and SD-OCT. A thorough knowledge of wavefront aberrations enhances the overall understanding of the optics of the eye and aids practitioners in an accurate correction of aberration-related vision problems. Dr. He hopes that his research will provide ophthalmologists and optometrists both with comprehensive and effective information for wavefront guided vision corrections such as refractive surgery, cataract surgery, contact lenses, and accommodation restoration. In past years, Dr. He has presented the findings from his studies to the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology at its annual conferences. Dr. He earned a PhD from the Department of Psychology at the University of Chicago and has a master’s of science degree in physiological optics from the Shanghai Institute of Physiology Chinese Academy of Science. He is a member of both ARVO and the Optical Society of America. He is also on the editorial review board for the Journal of Optometry.
