Biography

Professor Jerzy Ostrowski is the Head of the Department of Genetics, Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Center and Institute of Oncology and Professor of Medicine at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Medical Center for Postgraduate Education. He is a specialist in the field of internal medicine and gastroenterology and has been certified by the European Board of Gastroenterology as a “Fellow in Gastroenterology“. One of his research interests includes the application of integrative genomics (microarrays, next generation sequencing and mass spectrometry combined with bioinformatic analyzes) to study molecular mechanisms of complex diseases. In years 1997-2004, Professor Ostrowski spent each year 3 to 6 months as a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Medicine, University of Washington, Seattle, USA. He has received several academic awards, including Award of the Prime Minister for the outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of medicine and molecular biology; Professor Subsidy from the Foundation for Polish Science as well as 16 awards of the Ministry of Health. He has been the Principal Investigator in numerous research grant projects and the promoter of more than 20 doctoral dissertations.
