Jeff Peters is a research geographer with the Western Geographic Science Center (WGSC), located in Menlo Park, CA. Peters researches risk and vulnerability for natural hazards, especially tsunamis using geographic information science/systems (GIS) . He analyzed coastal California community exposure and vulnerability to tsunami hazards and coauthored two USGS reports on the topic with Nathan Wood and Jamie Ratliff. Peters also compiled and processed the necessary GIS data to simulate and analyze pedestrian evacuation for tsunami hazards in several Alaskan communities. Peters coauthored two journal articles with Nathan Wood regarding evacuation in Alaska, one on Seward, Alaska and the other is a comparison of different tsunami threats for five communities.
