Biography

Jay Agarwal, MD, is Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and a Huntsman Cancer Institute investigator. Dr. Agarwal’s clinical research focus is in the area of breast reconstruction after mastectomy to treat breast cancer. His basic science research interests include tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and medical device design. Active research programs focus on the development of technologies for the improvement of peripheral nerve regeneration and microvascular surgery. Dr. Agarwal graduated from medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed residency training in both general surgery and plastic surgery at the University of Chicago. After six years in Chicago, he went on to specialize in hand surgery and microvascular surgery at the Buncke Clinic in San Francisco. Dr. Agarwal currently serves on the editorial board or as an ad hoc reviewer on a number of academic journals.
