Biography

Dr. James Yoo attended Medical School at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center, a major Harvard teaching hospital in Boston, MA. During his surgical training he completed a two-year research fellowship at Harvard University and the University of Cincinnati. Following the completion of his surgical residency he pursued further specialized fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic colorectal techniques at the Weill Cornell Medical College (New York, NY), followed by a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell and Columbia campuses). He joined the faculty of the UCLA Department of Surgery as an Assistant Professor in 2006.

Research Intrest

Dr. Yoo research interests involve understanding the pathologic processes underlying inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn?s disease and ulcerative colitis), cancer of the colon and rectum, as well as the study of new innovative minimally invasive surgical and endoscopic techniques.
