Biography

I joined Northumbria University having spent several years working in a partnership post as a practice placement facilitator organising a range of health professional student placements and providing support to students and mentors during their clinical rotations. My clinical nursing experience includes various critical care settings and acute surgery. Since joining the University I have held a number of module lead roles and have been instrumental in developing the use of simulation within the nursing curriculum. In addition to this role, I provide extensive student support to my own Guidance Tutor group. I also lead the development and the successful implementation of the Learning Leaders peer support programme. I have coordinated module PR0401, Foundations of Safe and effective Practice, over the last few years developing this foundation module around core skills and knowledge for Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Operating Practitioners students. This has included the development and support around an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) assessment. I am a Personal Tutor providing support and guidance to a group of Nursing students for the duration of their three year programme. I have a long-term interest in simulation based education and its inclusion in the curriculum. I am actively involved with the development of new ways of enhancing student experiences in both the academic and practice settings. This includes the lead role for Learning Leadership, a voluntary peer support and mentoring scheme within pre-registration Nursing.
