Biography

Dr.Jack Barentse is the Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Practical Theology, Evangelische Theologische Faculteit,Sint-Jansbergsesteenweg 95-973001, Leuven,Belgium. He has more than 13 years of teaching experience.He has more than 60 publications by his name.Jack Barentsen (PhD) studied physics, philosophy and theology in the US, and moved to the Netherlands in 1988 as pastor and church planter. Working with new church plants provided ample opportunity to learn about discipleship and leadership development, learning that continued as Jack started teaching at the Evangelische Theologische Faculteit in Leuven (Belgium). It seemed a natural fit to research leadership development in early Christianity through the lens of modern leadership theory for his dissertation (Emerging Leadership in the Pauline Mission, W&S 2011). Since then, he teaches and researches various forms of church and religious leadership in multiple countries, while he serves as Associate Professor and Chair of Practical Theology and as Senior Research Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Social Ethics. He also holds an appointment as Extraordinary Associate Professor of New Testament and Practical Theology in the Faculty of Theology of North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
