I graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 1996 with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science. During my degree I was part of the West Midlands Regional Health Authority NHS training scheme for biomedical science and spent vacations and a placement year rotating around all pathology disciplines within the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust. After graduation I achieved state registration by viva with the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine (now the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)) in Haematology and Transfusion Science before cross training in Clinical Chemistry and moving to Mid Staffordshire General Hospital. In 1997 I returned to the University of Wolverhampton to undertake an MSc in Biomedical Science. In 2012 I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at Keele University Medical School and in 2015 undertook a Clinical Academic Internship with Birmingham Health Partners (University of Birmingham, University Hospitals Birmingham and Birmingham Children’s Hospital).
