Admnistration, Education, Research During my academic tenure in the Netherlands as head of Nursing Science, I was instrumental in developing the MSN and PhD programs, and in establishing the Centre for Nursing Research. The MSN program was offered at three sites in the Netherlands namely Maastricht, Utrecht, and Groningen as well as at the Red Cross School of Nursing in Switzerland. My consultancy with the Aga Khan Foundation led to the founding of the Institute for Advanced Nursing Studies in East Africa. Since my appointment at AUB in 2003, I have launched the MSN and RN-BSN (bridging degree) programs and coordinated the accreditation of both BSN and MSN programs by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in the USA. The unconditional CCNE accreditation was granted for 5 years n 2007 and for 10 years in 2012. AUB School of Nursing became the first School of Nursing to be accredited by CCNE outside the US. My research endeavours of the last 30 years focussed primarily on pain management and palliative care in children and adults. To that effect I have supervised a large number of PhD dissertations and have been lead investigator on a large number of funded projects in the Netherlands on pain management, palliative care, and integrated models of care for the chronically ill. My research endeavours in Lebanon have focused primarily on pain management & palliative care in adults and children. I am currently a lead investigator on a number of national projects in Lebanon. I have published more than 300 articles in national & international refereed journals and two books, one of which is on ‘evidence-based palliative care across the life span’, published by Blackwell Science. I received in 2010 the Life Time Achievement Award of the Macmillan Cancer Care for my work on pain management and palliative care. In addition I was selected as International Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Specialties: Pain Management and Palliative Care
