Dr. George Hatzigeorgiou was born in Athens. He holds a Diploma (1995) and a PhD (2001) from the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Patras. In 2013 was elected as Associate Professor at Hellenic Open University – Engineering Project Management MSc and he has also served as Lecturer and Assistant Professor at Democritus University of Thrace (2006-2013). He worked 11 years as a professional, specializing in design of concrete and steel structures including the wind-turbines, large sport-halls, metro stations and low and high rise residential, office and industrial buildings. He is the author of an e-book on the Seismic Design of Structures and he has published about 110 technical papers in peer-reviewed journals, books and conference proceedings. His research experience includes 7 research projects funded by national and international, governmental on non, organizations on the wind-turbines design, underground structures design, behavior of anchors and rebars in plain and fiber reinforced concrete and seismic design of steel structures. He is a member of Greek Association of Civil Engineers and Technical Chamber of Greece.
His main research interests focus in the area of static and seismic analysis of structures, plasticity and damage mechanics, design of underground structures, dynamic soil–structure interaction, boundary elements, finite elements and optimum design of structures.
