Gordon Hayes obtained a degree from Cambridge University in Natural Sciences (1986) before completing his 2nd MB at UCL (1987) and going on to graduate in Medicine from Edinburgh University (1990). Following medical and surgical posts at Leeds General Infirmary and St James' University Hospital Leeds, he subsequently trained as a General Practitioner in York, gaining his MRCGP (1994). He worked as a GP in the Scarborough area for over twenty years, has tutored and examined on the RCGP Yorkshire Faculty MRCGP preparation course, was registered and acted as a GP Trainer for six years, and has worked as a Medical Examiner for the DVLA. Since 2006 he has taught at HYMS in York where he is a Clinical Educational Facilitator, and gained a PGCClinEd at Newcastle University (2008). He is also a Director of Clinical Studies in Primary Care for HYMS in Scarborough.
