Dr. Gail Hammill teaches classes in literature and composition. Her Ph.D., completed at the University of Pittsburgh, is entitled “Soldier Relics: Images of Sacrificial Masculinity in Nineteenth Century American Civil War Literature”. While Dr. Hammill has published in the area of American war literature, her current interests also include creative nonfiction, and literary representations of gender and the body in American literature and student writing. She has taught courses in literature, composition, and women’s studies at the University of Pittsburgh and Camden County College. Having spent her secondary school years as a student at the School of American Ballet, founded by George Balanchine as the training ground for the New York City Ballet, Dr. Hammill was part of the last generation to be trained during Balanchine’s lifetime and aegis. She has taught classical ballet at some of the most prominent dance schools in the United States including Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School and The New Jersey School of Ballet. Dr. Hammill, her husband Jim, and their two sons, John and William, currently enjoy living, socializing and walking their dogs in Dubai.
