Dr. Francine Morin is a leading authority in Canadian arts education. She is active teaching courses in music and arts education as well as educational research methods and advises several graduate students. Dr. Morin is a founding board member of the Canadian Network for Arts and Learning, founding member and past-president of the Alliance for Arts Education in Manitoba, past-president of the Manitoba Choral Association, and chair of Manitoba Education’s K-12 Arts Education Steering Committee. In A Study of Arts Education in Manitoba Schools, Dr. Morin (2010) gave educators its first comprehensive look at school arts programming in dance, drama, music, and visual arts. As a key contributor to arts education curriculum reform, Dr. Morin served as lead writer for both the K-8 Dance and 9-12 Dance Manitoba Curriculum Frameworks. She is currently working in concert with leaders from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Seven Oaks School Division, and Winnipeg School Division to study the impacts of an El-Sistema-inspired after school orchestral program on children and their families and communities. In keeping with her research interests in teacher professional learning and development, Dr. Morin continues to collaborate with colleagues in the Winnipeg School Division on evaluation studies of innovative induction models for early service teachers and school leaders. In a new study, Dr. Morin is undertaking a systematic review of the research on the effectiveness and experiences of arts-based pedagogy for undergraduate nursing students with colleagues from the College of Nursing. She is currently on the editorial boards for the Canadian Journal of Action Research and the Alberta Journal of Educational Research and serves on the Joint Research Committee for the Canadian Music Educators Association and the Coalition for Music Education in Canada.
