Dr Petruccione studied Physics at the University of Freiburg i. Br. and received his PhD in 1988. He got his “Habilitation” from the same University in 1994 and worked there until 2003. In 2004 he was appointed Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Since 2007 he is the South African Research Chair for Quantum Information Processing and Communication. At present, he is one of the Deputy Directors of the National Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Chairman of the Board of QZN Technology, a spin off company of UKZN.
